God is Love

Romans 5:8 (NIV)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The nature of God is Love, for God is love and love gives. And we know the love of God gives without expectation.  Jesus said that all would know that we are His disciples if we have love for one another as He had love for us (John 13:34-35).  When we receive Jesus as our lord, we have the love of God shed abroad in our hearts and we can give as He gives.  We love because He first loved us.  We take on the nature of God and let our light shine in the world.  By this all men will know that we are His because the world can not give what they do not have.

Before I was saved, I was hanging around with a different crowd.  They showed kindness, but there was always an expectation of a necessity to give back.  It was like receiving a present with a boat anchor attached.

As God was drawing me near to him, He began to show me His love through others.  They expected nothing in return but looked to my needs before theirs (Philippians 2:3-4).  They demonstrated their love by giving and I saw that they were different.

Just as God demonstrated His love by giving His son, we can demonstrate our love by giving to others.  Then the world will know that we are His disciples and see the light within us.
